Regular dental visits are crucial for good oral health. Unfortunately, patients often neglect this habit due to a list of causes, including lack of time, dentophobia, etc.
To help such people care for their smiles, DentistryOne company – a provider of dental diagnostic software – released a new app, SmileScan, which can analyze the condition of individuals' dental health using their smartphones.
It's important to note that such a solution can not replace dental visits, but the app can keep you posted about the condition of your oral cavity and let you know when a real problem appears.
So, let's review this invention!
How does it work?
To use an app, you need only your smartphone and mirror, which will allow you to take a coherent photo. Developers described how the whole SmileScan algorithm works:
- Take five pictures of your teeth according to the app's guide – using a mirror or asking your friend to help you with this step is better.
- Wait until AI analyzes the received data to check five crucial oral health factors: inflammation, gum recession, tartar buildup, alignment issues, and teeth gaps.
- Read the detailed report with highlighted concern areas and health scores based on the features described above.
- In-build care support will help you schedule a virtual consultation with one of DentistryOne's dental experts.
Why it's useful?
In the US – the company's homeland – about half of the people do not visit dentists regularly, and SmileScan is dedicated to helping them start to care about their dental health in the easiest and most accessible way.
Brant Heman – DentistryOne founder and CEO – shared with the public his vision of the company's goal: "By empowering individuals with AI-driven insights and connecting them to care when needed, we're fostering a proactive approach to better oral health. This is particularly important for those managing conditions where oral health is linked to overall well-being, such as diabetes, heart disease, and autoimmune disorders."
